Report: McGregor Receiving Majority Of Placed Bets For Super Fight

UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is just a couple of days away from making his professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor is coming into the fight as a huge underdog against the much more experienced Mayweather, but that hasn’t stopped the gamblers out there from betting on the Irish star.

According to multiple reports compiled by Bloody Elbow, nearly 95% of the bets placed on the super fight are for McGregor, with a mere 5% being for Mayweather.

David Payne Pardum writes about sports gambling for ESPN and he claims that MGM Race & Sports has received over 6,000 bets in favor of McGregor.

Jay Rood is the Vice President Of MGM Resorts Race & Sports and he says that all the bets on the UFC Lightweight Champion could lead to the biggest losses in the history of MGM Resorts.

"This is like hanging -3 on the Super Bowl and seeing the line move to -8," Rood said to ESPN. "This could be the worst loss in the history of MGM Resorts."

Las Vegas Westgate Superbook manager/odds maker John Murray says a McGregor win could ruin a whole years worth of business for the organization.

"Ultimately, we want to be in a position where we win a significant amount on Mayweather, but we don't want to be destroyed if McGregor wins," Murray said to ESPN. "We don't want this fight to cost us our whole year."

Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
