Makwan Amirkhani vs. Edson Barboza At UFC Fight Island 5
Sodiq Yusuff has been pulled from UFC Fight Island 5 for undisclosed reasons, replacing him against Edson Barboza is Makwan Amirkhani.
Combate first reported the news. The promotion subsequently confirmed it this week.
Barboza (20-9-0) is winless thus far when competing at featherweight, dropping a fight to Dan Ige at UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris. Barboza has not picked up a victory in almost two years. His last win was against Dan Hooker at UFC On Fox 31. Barboza has competed 29 times as a professional MMA fighter. All 11 of those bouts went the distance.
Amirkhani (16-4-0) has won three of his last four under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over Jason Knight, Chris Fishgold and Danny Henry. Amirkhani is back on a Fight Night card for the first time in over a year and the fighter holds a 4-1-0 on Fight Night cards. Amirkhani has competed 20 times as a professional MMA fighter and six of those bouts went the distance.
UFC Fight Island 5 takes place on Saturday, October 10 from Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi with Marlon Moraes and Cory Sandhagen headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be revealed.
