Report: Katlyn Chookagian Backup Fighter For UFC 230 Main Event

Valentina Shevchenko and Sijara Eubanks are going to be battling for the vacant UFC Women’s Flyweight Title in the main event of UFC 230.

However, a backup plan has been put in place in case either fighter is unable to compete in the main event and that backup comes in the form of Katlyn Chookagian according to Ariel Helwani of ESPN.

This is the second time in three months that the UFC had a backup fighter ready to replace a main event competitor, as Kamaru Usman played that role at UFC 228.

Chookagian actually holds a victory over Eubanks, which came via unanimous decision at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 52 in October of 2015. Shevchenko and Chookagian have never met before, but that fight could become a reality at UFC 230 if Euabanks doesn’t compete or after UFC 230 if Shevchenko is victorious on that night.

The UFC may be on the right track to have a back up fighter for the event, considering that Eubanks missed the UFC Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale due to issues with weight cutting.

UFC 230 takes place on Saturday, November 3 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Valentina Shevchenko and Sijara Eubanks headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
