Report: Jose Aldo Faces Cub Swanson At UFC 233, Swanson Says Fight Isn’t Happening

A featherweight division rematch has been added to UFC 233 according to Combate as #2 Jose Aldo faces #7 Cub Swanson.

Aldo (27-4-0) picked up the victory over Swanson in their initial meeting at WEC 41 in June of 2009, with that win coming by first round knockout in just eight seconds. Aldo is a former UFC Featherweight Champion and former UFC Interim Featherweight Champion, defeating Mike Brown and Frankie Edgar to start both reigns. Aldo has won just two of his last five under the UFC banner, with those wins coming over the aforementioned Edgar and Jeremy Stephens.

Swanson (25-10-0) enters the contest while in the midst of a three fight losing streak and he hasn’t picked up a win in almost two years. Swanson hasn’t picked up a victory on a UFC pay-per-view card in almost two years, with that last victory coming at UFC 206 in December of 2016. Swanson has gone the distance twelve times as a professional MMA fighter, with Swanson picking up wins in ten of those encounters.

UFC 233 takes place on Saturday, January 26 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with Henry Cejudo and TJ Dillashaw headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.

Swanson would take to Twitter a short time after the fight announcement came out, saying that he isn’t competing at UFC 233:
