Report: Jon Jones Settles Tax Liens Dating Back To 2018

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones has had a lot of success in the Octagon, but the same thing cannot be said with the fighter on the outside of the Octagon.

However, a positive step forward has been taken by Jones as Mookie Alexander & John S. Nash of Bloody Elbow are reporting that Jones has settled tax liens against him dating back to 2018.

Documents obtained by Bloody Elbow show that Jones was hit with multiple state and federal tax liens in late 2018, which covered tax years 2014-2016 for the federal and 2015-2017 for the state.

The largest of those liens was approximate $1.3 million and a separate amount of approximately $87,000 by the state of New Mexico alone. The liens which have been filed against Jones, both federal and state, have since been released according to Bloody Elbow.

John S. Nash has composed a list of all the liens against Jones by year, which can be viewed below:

Federal Tax Liens

2014 – $48,886.40

2015 – $762,001.80

2016 – $495,115.30

New Mexico Tax Liens

2015 – Penalty: $28,770.60. Interest: $15,678.94. Total $44,449.54

2016 – Penalty: $24,746.85 Interest: $7,701.27 Total $32,448.12

2017 – Penalty: $6,000.15 Interest: $4,359.34 Total: $10,359.49

It was on April 29 of this year that the IRS issued a Certificate of Release of Federal Tax Lien, which certifies that Jones has satisfied all of the above tax issues. The state of New Mexico issued Jones a similar certificate on April 22 of this year, meaning that his state tax responsibilities have been fulfilled. A final lien was released on August 14 of this year, so all of Jones’ pre-existing tax liens have now been taken care of.
