Report: Johnny Walker vs. Ryan Spann Moved To UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley
A light-heavyweight firefight between #11 Johnny Walker and #12 Ryan Spann, originally set for UFC 253, has been moved to UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley.
Luis Coutinho first reported the news, although a reason for the card change wasn’t revealed. Walker and Spann will fight on a different card but the same date after UFC 253 was moved from September 19 to September 26.
Walker (17-5-0) enters the contest riding a two-fight losing streak, dropping bouts to Corey Anderson and Nikita Krylov. Walker has not picked up a victory in over a year. His last win came against Misha Cirkunov at UFC 235. Walker has picked up 17 wins as a professional MMA fighter and 14 of them are by KO/TKO.
Spann (18-5-0) is undefeated thus far in the UFC, picking up wins over Luis Henrique, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Devin Clark and Sam Alvey. Spann has competed twice on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, beating Emiliano Sordi and losing to Karl Roberson. Spann has competed 23 times as a professional MMA fighter and just five of those bouts went the distance.
UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley is set for Saturday, September 19. Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley will headline the card. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, but broadcast plans have yet to be revealed.
