Jessica Andrade vs. Rose Namajunas II Slated For UFC 249
A women’s strawweight division rematch could be heading to UFC 249 as #1 Jessica Andrade is again facing #2 Rose Namajunas.
Ariel Helwani of ESPN first reported the bout, but its place on the card isn’t known at the moment. UFC later confirmed the news.
Andrade (20-7-0) is competing for the first time since losing the UFC Women’s Strawweight Title to Weili Zhang at UFC Fight Night Shenzhen. Andrade won the first meeting between herself and Namajunas, with that victory coming by second round knockout at UFC 237. Andrade has suffered four losses while competing in the UFC, with three of them coming to those who have held or challenged for UFC gold.
Namajunas (8-4-0) is competing for the first time since losing the UFC Women’s Strawweight Title to Andrade at UFC 237. Namajunas is going to be competing for the first time in almost a year, as UFC 237 took place in May of 2019. Namajunas has picked up eight wins as a professional MMA fighter and five of them came by way of submission.
UFC 249 takes place on Saturday, April 18 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
