Report: Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero Headlines UFC 248

The UFC Middleweight Title is going to be defended in the main event of UFC 248 as Israel Adesanya puts the gold on the line against #3 Yoel Romero.

Brett Okamoto of ESPN first reported the main event encounter.

Adesanya (18-0-0) is going to be making the first defense of his championship, defeating Robert Whittaker to win the gold at UFC 243. Adesanya is also a former UFC Interim Middleweight Champion, defeating Kelvin Gastelum to win that belt at UFC 236. Adesanya is undefeated thus far as a professional MMA fighter and that streak has lasted over seven years.

Romero (13-4-0) enters the contest while in the midst of a two fight losing streak and he hasn’t picked up a win in almost two years. Romero has previously had three attempts to win the UFC Middleweight Title and UFC Interim Middleweight Title, losing twice to Robert Whittaker and coming in overweight for a bout against Luke Rockhold. Romero has previously headlined four UFC events, going 2-2-0 in those past main event encounters.

UFC 248 takes place on Saturday, March 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
