Report: Islam Makhachev Faces Francisco Trinaldo At UFC 233

A lightweight division attraction has been added to UFC 233 according to Farah Hannoun as #13 Francisco Trinaldo is going to be in the Octagon against Islam Makhachev.

Trinaldo (23-6-0) has rotated wins and losses in his last five UFC appearances, with the latest fight being a second round knockout victory over Evan Dunham at UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo. Trinaldo has suffered six losses as a professional MMA fighter and five of those defeats have come under the UFC banner. Trinaldo is competing on a UFC pay-per-view card for the first time in over two years, with his last such appearance coming at UFC 198 in May of 2016.

Makhachev (16-1-0) has won five of six bouts in UFC competition and will enter this contest on the strength of a four fight winning streak. Makhachev has suffered just a single defeat as a professional MMA fighter and that loss came to Adriano Martins at UFC 192. Makhachev was one of the fighters named by UFC President Dana White as possibly not fighting in the UFC anymore after his alleged role in the UFC 229 brawl, but those plans have obviously changed.

UFC 233 takes place on Saturday, January 26 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
