Report: Felice Herrig Injured, Off UFC 238
The UFC 238 card has taken a hit because Felice Herrig has suffered a torn ACL and has been pulled from the event, where she was supposed to fight Yan Xiaonan.
Herrig posted the news via a video on Instagram:
Here is a transcript of what Herrig said in the video (via MMA Junkie):
“Hello. Uh, crutches. That’s never a good thing, and it’s not. Unfortunately (on) Friday I tore my ACL, and I do need surgery, which means that I will not be fighting on (UFC 238), which is a bummer for sure. I just want to say I’m sorry to the fans, to the UFC and most definitely my opponent. I hope that she gets a replacement. There’s still enough time. As for me, what can you do? All I can do is move forward and work on my recovery … and come back stronger than ever.”
UFC officials are seeking a replacement for Herrig, as Xiaonan is expected to remain on the card at this time.
Xiaonan (10-1-0-1NC) is undefeated thus far under the UFC banner, defeating the trio of Kailin Curran, Viviane Pereira and Syuri Kondo. Xiaonan has picked up ten wins as a professional MMA fighter, with five coming by way of KO/TKO and five coming by way of decision. Xiaonan has suffered just a single defeat as a professional MMA fighter and that came against Karina Hallman at Martial Combat 10 in September of 2010.
UFC 238 takes place on Saturday, June 8 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois with Henry Cejudo and Marlon Moraes headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
