Report: Dricus Du Plessis Steps In At UFC Fight Island 5
Markus Perez needed a new opponent to battle at UFC Fight Island 5 after the withdrawal of Rodolfo Vieira and now he has one in the form of Dricus Du Plessis.
Raphael Marinho of Combate first reported the bout.
Perez (12-3-0) has rotated wins and losses throughout his UFC run, with the latest being a unanimous decision loss to Wellington Turman at UFC Fight Night Sao Paulo. All three of Perez’s professional losses have occurred in the UFC. Half of Perez’s wins are by submission.
Du Plessis (14-2-0) is making his UFC debut in this bout and does so on the strength of a two fight winning streak. Du Plessis has competed 16 times as a professional MMA fighter and none of those bouts went the distance.
UFC Fight Island 5 takes place on Saturday, October 10 from Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi with Marlon Moraes and Cory Sandhagen headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be revealed.
