Report: Derrick Lewis Signs Sponsorship Deal With Popeye’s Chicken, Cormier Isn’t Happy
The heavyweight contender, according to MMA Fighting, has just signed a sponsorship deal with Popeye’s Chicken.
There is no word yet on how long the deal is for or how much money Lewis stands from the new sponsorship arrangement.
Lewis’ manager is Malki Kawa and he took to Twitter recently to reveal that Popeye’s Chicken has given his client free meals for life:
Lmao, Popeyes in Houston just called and gave @Thebeast_ufc free Popeyes for life and Derrick will be on the menu board, in addition to what corporate is doing. Let’s go d! #popeyes

Also, a Popeye’s Chicken in Cypress, Texas has revealed that if Lewis wins at UFC 230, a bunch of free meals will be given away the following day:
“If Derrick Lewis wins eat for free from 2-4 on Sunday” at Popeyes on 9120 Barker Cypress Rd, Cypress, TX 7743. Also Derrick Lewis will eat for free at this location for the rest off his life!! pic.twitter.com/Zu7khi71am

Lewis’ opponent Cormier spoke out about the move, and he wasn’t happy about it.
“He did. That sucks,” Cormier said of getting passed over for the deal. “It really sucks that he got it done. I don’t know what happened. My managers need to get on their sh*t. wanted money. I wanted money, that might have been the problem. He got free chicken for life, that’s pretty impressive. You know, I was talking to Ariel the other day about me sitting down and eating “Carl’s Jr.” the whole time. So since Popeyes wants to stick it to me, I’m going to go do a signing and give away free burgers at “Carls Jr.,” that’s what I’m going to do.”
UFC 230 takes place on Saturday, November 3 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
