Report: Conor McGregor Faces Donald Cerrone In UFC 246 Main Event
A welterweight division attraction will headline UFC 246 as #4 (LW) Conor McGregor is in action against #5 (LW) Donald Cerrone.
Brett Okamoto of ESPN first reported the bout.
McGregor (21-4-0) hasn’t won a bout in over three years, with that last victory coming over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. McGregor is a former UFC Featherweight Champion and a former UFC Lightweight Champion, defeating Jose Aldo to win the featherweight gold and the aforementioned Alvarez to win the lightweight strap. McGregor last competed in the main event of UFC 229, suffering a fourth round submission loss to UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Cerrone (36-13-0-1NC) enters the contest while in the midst of a two fight losing streak, dropping bouts to Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje. Cerrone has never headlined a UFC pay-per-view card before, despite having been with the promotion for almost nine years. Cerrone has previously challenged for the UFC Lightweight Title, losing to then champion Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC On Fox 17.
UFC 246 takes place on Saturday, January 18 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
