Report: Antonio Carlos Jr. Injured, Off UFC 231
It would appear that the second attempt to book Antonio Carlos Jr. against Elias Theodorou has fallen through again because Carlos Jr has suffered an injury and has been pulled from the card.
Carlos Jr. made the announcement himself via Twitter:
Hey @EliasTheodorou Really sorry man! The injury I had is a little more serious then I thought. I’ll need a surgery, so won’t be able to fight Dec 8th.
Pity, I was going to give you a bjj lesson, and not hurt you cause your cool!!! @Alexdavismma— Cara de Sapato (@caradesapatojr) September 14, 2018
There is no word yet on exactly how long Carlos Jr. is going to be out of action for, but more should be known once surgery is complete.
UFC officials are seeking a replacement for Carlos Jr., as Theodorou is expected to remain on the card at this time.
Theodorou (15-2-0) enters the contest while riding a two bout winning streak, having defeated the duo of Daniel Kelly and Trevor Smith. Theodorou has six his last six bouts go the distance and it has been over three years since the fighter got a finish. Theodorou was the winner of the UFC UItimate Fighter Nations, defeating Sheldon Westcott in the finals of the reality show.
UFC 231 is taking place on Saturday, December 8 from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with Max Holloway and Brian Ortega headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
