Paulo Costa Calls Israel Adesanya A Shameful Champion, While Adesanya Promises To Sleep Him

UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya successfully defended the championship against Yoel Romero in a lackluster UFC 248 main event.

Paulo Costa was in attendance at the event and he believes that Adesanya is a shameful champion after what went down in the Octagon.

“Horrible fight,” Costa said after the event (via Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie). “I was ashamed to watch that fight. Adesanya is nothing. Adesanya is the most shameful champion I have ever seen. He just runs. He’s nothing. He’s scared. I think he don’t deserve to talk about him, but he was (expletive). That fight was (expletive).”

Costa is expected to be next for Adesanya, as the potential future title challenger was reportedly just cleared to train again after getting bicep surgery.

Adesanya knows that Costa is next for him and the champion promises to sleep Costa when they collide in the Octagon.

“Already I know how that fight’s going to go,” he said at the post-fight press conference (via Simon Head & John Morgan of MMA Junkie). “I’m going to sleep that guy. He’s a guy that I’ve seen (before). I’ve had a lot of kickboxing fights. His reach, his arms when he lets them down, they reach his waist, you know? I’ll pick him apart. He’s a guy I’ll definitely jab, I’ll pick apart, catch him, then knock him out.”

There is no word yet on when the potential title bout will take place, but Adesanya did say he’d like the bout to happen during UFC International Fight Week.
