Nick Diaz Suspended For USADA Violation, UFC Issues Statement
Nick Diaz has found himself in trouble yet again.
Less than a year after having his last suspension lifted, Diaz has been provisionally suspended for three "Whereabouts Failures" in the past 365 days.
The UFC have released a statement in regards to Nick Diaz's potential USADA violation, which you can see below.
The UFC organization has been notified that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Nick Diaz of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from Diaz’s alleged accumulation of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period. Diaz, like all other UFC athletes, is enrolled in USADA’s UFC Registered Testing Pool and required to file accurate Whereabouts information in order to be located for out-of-competition, no-notice testing.
USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of Diaz’s case, who has been provisionally suspended pending the final resolution of this matter. Under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair legal process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.
Diaz could be facing a six month to two-year suspension for not updating his Whereabouts, but could see a hearing on the matter.
Diaz has not fought since Jan. 31, 2015, when he faced Anderson Silva at UFC 183 in what ultimately was ruled a no contest after both fighters failed their drug tests. Silva won the fight by unanimous decision but was flagged for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Diaz was suspended 18 months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) after he was flagged for marijuana metabolites. Diaz originally was suspended for five years, but he appealed the ruling in January of this year. The suspension was reduced to 18 months, and ended as of August 1, 2016.
