Nate Diaz Recalls Thinking He Was Rich, And Buying His First Car

When Nate Diaz won “The Ultimate Fighter 5” as a 22-year-old, he thought that he had it the big time and had achieved wealthy status. Being “The Ultimate Fighter” winner meant getting a six figure UFC contract, but getting the money wasn’t as clear cut as he originally thought.

Speaking to FOX Sports’ Andy Nesbitt, Diaz thought that he was rich as the winner of the reality show. He soon found out that fighter contracts don’t exactly work out like that.

“My first UFC contract, I believed I was rich,” Diaz said. “If you watch ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ when I won, I look at (UFC President) Dana White and go, ‘I’m rich.’ And I really, actually believed that.”

Diaz’s dream of buying a Cadillac hit a roadblock when he went to a dealership to buy the vehicle, when he realized he wasn’t at the right dealership for it.

“I went home, and I had a plan to buy my mom a house and buy a Cadillac,” Diaz said. “I went home, and I went straight to the dealership, and when I got to the dealership, I was like, ‘Yo, I want a Cadillac, woo-woo-woo.’ I’m talking to this guy who works at the dealership who’s my friend. (I said), ‘I want to buy a Cadillac; we’re looking at houses right now.’ He’s like, ‘I’m proud of you. Cool.’ And then he’s like, ‘This is a Chevy dealership.'”
