Nate Diaz is in the process of applying for a boxing license in the state of Nevada, according to ESPN
Bob Bennett, an executive director with the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) confirmed to ESPN that Diaz has started the process.
Bennett also confirmed to ESPN that Diaz paid a $50,000 fine to the NAC, stemming from the bottle throwing incident with UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor at a UFC 202 press conference, as well as submitted footage of himself boxing. The NAC is expected to approve his license.
Diaz is coming off of a career year in 2016, submitting then UFC Featherweight Champion (now lightweight champion) Conor McGregor at UFC 196, then losing a decision to McGregor at UFC 202.
Speaking of McGregor, he has been approved by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) for a boxing license, but legal issues are preventing him from getting one in Nevada.
Diaz, who hasn’t made any comments publicly on the matter, has been a longtime training partner for boxing standout Andre Ward, Diaz has yet to compete as a boxer on either the amateur or the professional level.
