MVP Two Fights Away From Free Agency

Michael “Venom” Page will be taking on Derek Anderson in the co-main event of next month’s Bellator 179 card.

The fight against Anderson will be just one of the two fights left on MVP’s contract and the British fighter has no idea what the future holds.

“I honestly don’t know,” Page told Champions. “Obviously, it’s a tough decision and position to be in. I’ve talked to all my loved ones, and it’s difficult, man. Everyone has their different views and stuff. When the time comes, I’ll really look into making that decision. For the minute, Bellator is home, and I’m just going to get on with it. I’m going to focus on Derek Anderson and nothing else. I believe I’ve just got two more. I got this one [against Anderson] and then another one. Then, we will see. We will see what happens, man. I could well be a free agent. I have to keep my focus, though. I can’t look ahead, because if I were to lose this fight badly, then that changes things in a big way. I just have to do what I do best and put people away and entertain at the same time.”

MVP has earned a total of eight wins under the Bellator MMA banner, which includes victories over Strikeforce veteran Evangelista Santos and UFC veteran Nah-Shon Burrell.

Even though his future in Bellator MMA is up in the air, the British fighter expects to steal the show in his next bout.

“I plan to steal the show every time I step in the cage, man,” he said. “I really do love what I’m doing. I just love to fight and it’s still fun for me—it’s still like a game. That’s what makes it different for me compared to other fighters. They take it so super serious and it’s super stressful for a lot of fighters. The result means a lot to them, but to me, I’m just enjoying myself. When I first came into the sport, I had no idea how far I could go. I was just more curious to see if my style could work. It’s such a tough sport, but I’m just here to see who long I can keep the ball rolling and see how far I can push myself. I’m just enjoying myself right now.”

Bellator 179 takes place on Friday, May 19 from the Wembley Arena in London, England with Rory MacDonald and Paul Daley headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs via tape delay on Spike TV.
