Much Money Was Made — And Lost — By Fighters During UFC International Fight Week

The headlines Monday morning were all about the UFC’s sale. During international fight week, there was plenty of money earned… and lost.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk made a pretty nice sum for her title defense over Claudia Gadelha Friday night in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale. Jedrzejczyk made $105,000 to show, $105,000 to win, as well as a $50,000 bonus for “Fight of the Night.” Champions earn an additional standard of $40,000 from Reebok as part of a sponsorship agreement, but Jedrzejczyk signed with Reebok individually last year, which puts her well over $300,000 for her performance.

Other big earners on the show were Will Brooks ($100,000 total), Claudia Gadelha ($180,000 including the Reebok deal), and Gray Maynard ($146,000 including post-fight bonuses).

On Thursday’s UFC Fight Night 90 show, Eddie Alvarez won the UFC title, and made a reported $150,000 flat fee with no bonus. He picked up at least $30,000 from Reebok, but his opponent Rafael dos Anjos landed at least $350,000 from the UFC and Reebok. Including sponsorship dollars, Alan Jouban crossed the $100,000 threshold, as did Roy Nelson.

A lot of money was lost at UFC 200, as well. Jon Jones’ manager Malki Kawa appeared on the MMA Hour and said that Jones lost out on over ten million dollars during International Fight Week.

“I mean, think about this for a second; you’re talking about an eight-figure payday. Eight figures. Conor can talk about whatever he gets and all that. Jon by far is the highest paid fighter in the UFC. And the numbers that were shown that day from everybody from Brock all the way down, Jon was making more than all that,” said Kawa.
