Mike Tyson is arguably one of the greatest boxers of all time and he’s also a longtime fan of mixed martial arts.
When it comes to the upcoming super fight between UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, the boxing great feels the MMA star is going to get killed.
“McGregor’s going to get killed,” Tyson said on Pardon My Take. “Boxing? I got mad because I thought they were going to use MMA rules against boxing, because that’s what it’s all about — can the boxer beat the MMA guy? But Conor put his dumb ass in a position where he’s going to get knocked out, because this guy’s been doing this all his life since he was a little baby, and Conor can’t kick or grab and stuff. He not going to stand much of a chance.”
McGregor does come into the fight as a huge underdog, especially since he has no professional boxing experience to speak of.
Tyson is also willing to admit that the festivities surrounding the super fight have been exciting.
“It’s going to be exciting,” Tyson said. “The whole thing’s exciting because it’s got a circus-y kind of atmosphere, because you love the fact that you see — Conor’s a character. Like, Floyd’s never met a character like this. … ‘Boy! Come on, what are you talking about, boy?! Yeah, boy! … What do you got a bookbag for when you can’t read?’ And I want to say, ‘hey, man, that’s disrespectful,’ but the thing is, it’s so funny, man, I can’t stop.”
Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
