Michael Chiesa Doesn’t Think Colby Covington Should’ve Talked Trash To The UFC

UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Colby Covington was passed over for a shot at UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley, with that opportunity going to Kamaru Usman.

The interim champion would go on a tirade against the UFC after the title fight announcement, but Michael Chiesa believes it would’ve been smarter for Covington to speak with the UFC brass behind the scenes first.

“I think Colby should have tried to talk more with Dana and management before he went public,” Chiesa said on Pull No Punches (via Bloody Elbow).

Chiesa recently made his UFC Welterweight Division at UFC 232, defeating former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit by second round submission.

A huge reason that Covington isn’t getting the title shot, according to Chiesa, is that Covington may not have the fan following the fighter believed he had.

“…people don’t really like Colby, he doesn’t have as big of a following as he thinks he does. That’s the problem.,” says Chiesa.

UFC 235 takes place on Saturday, March 2 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Jon Jones and Anthony Smith potentially headlining. Fightful is going to be providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
