Megan Anderson Injured & Off UFC 214, Invicta FC Champ Replacing Her
Megan Anderson’s UFC debut has been delayed due to an unspecified injury and she is now off of UFC 214, where she was set to fight Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino for the vacant women’s featherweight title.
Replacing Anderson against Cyborg is going to be Invicta FC Bantamweight Champion Tonya Evinger, this is going to mark her UFC debut.
This was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
Justino (17-1-0-1NC) is currently undefeated under the UFC banner, having defeated Lina Lansberg and Leslie Smith. Justino is a former Strikeforce Women’s Featherweight Champion and former Invicta FC Featherweight Champion. Justino hasn’t suffered a defeat in just over twelve years, as her lone loss as a pro came to Erica Paes at Showfight 2 in May 2005.
Evinger (19-5-0-1NC) is the current Invicta Fighting Championships Bantamweight Champion, defeating UFC fighter Irene Aldana to win the belt.. Evinger has already defended her championship three times in Invicta FC, defeating Pannie Kianzad, Yana Kunitskaya and Colleen Schneider. Three of Evinger’s five losses as a pro came to UFC veterans — those three defeats came to Alexis Davis (twice) and Sara McMann.
In an ironic twist of fate, it was Evinger who replaced Anderson in the Invicta FC 24 main event after Anderson got the call from the UFC. Once again now, the Invicta FC 24 main event is missing a fighter, as Helena Kolesnyk now has no opponent for the second time in as many weeks.
UFC 214 takes place on Saturday, July 29 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
