Megan Anderson Claims The UFC is Signing More Featherweights

The UFC Women’s Featherweight Division roster is so thin that there isn’t even enough fighters to complete a top 15 ranking chart.

Megan Anderson is a member of that thin roster and she claims the promotion is starting to sign more female featherweights.

“I’m excited, I’ve heard – I’ve (been) given some news that they are finally starting to sign some featherweights,” Anderson told MMA Junkie“I know that they’ve signed Bea Malecki. She was on ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ but she’s apparently wanting to drop to 135, which is (expletive). But whatever. I know they’ve signed Felicia Spencer. They’ve signed a few other girls, and (UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard) is currently looking for a fight for me.”

A UFC Women’s Featherweight Title was created by the promotion in early 2017, with Germaine De Randamie, Cyborg and Amanda Nunes being the fighters who have held that strap.

Another tool the UFC tried to use to bolster the women’s featherweight division was the UFC Ultimate Fighter 28, but Anderson is mad that so many of the participants from the reality show are dropping to bantamweight.

“I just think it’s kind of bull(expletive) that you were in ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ to build the featherweight division, and then everyone’s dropping to bantamweight,” Anderson said. “I understand (in) previous seasons that people have gone up a weight division, and they’ve kind of gone back down once they get in. But this whole season was specifically built for building the featherweight division. So, I think it’s kind of bullshit. She (Macy Chiasson) looked great, but it’s easy to look good against someone who’s not very good. I think that was a perfect fight for her to come into the UFC, and I hope she does well at bantamweight. But by the looks of it, doesn’t look like she wants to come back up to featherweight. She considers herself a true featherweight, but if you can make 135, you’re not a true featherweight.”

Nunes is the current UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion, but no plans have been announced at this time as to when the next title defense will happen.
