Matt Riddle made his name in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, but seems poised to be a huge star in pro wrestling.
While rumors continue to fly about his contract status ahead of NXT Takeover: Brooklyn, Riddle returned to Fightful.com for a filming of The Bro Spot (as seen on our Fightful List & Ya Boy Wrestling Podcast), and told us about the other options he’s had on the table since leaving the UFC.
“I’ve only gotten a couple, and they’re always foreign. They’re always in China or Russia. I feel like American MMA doesn’t have the money it had, it was a boom. The only companies that can actually pay outside of Bellator and UFC are foreign. It’s too expensive, it’s saturated and I feel bad for MMA fighters. They’re all hopping to pro wrestling, Cain (Velasquez), Ronda’s over here,” Riddle said.
When asked about the crossover, as well as UFC’s business plan of bringing back Brock Lesnar to face Daniel Cormier, Riddle didn’t have a very positive forecast for his former employer.
“I think I paved the way, I think I’m a real pioneer for these guys,” Riddle joked. “I think that UFC is grasping for straws. They have too many shows. Can you even keep up with shows? They have shows on Sunday during the day,” said Riddle.
