Mark De La Rosa Says UFC Flyweights Need To Shut Up & Fight
Mark De La Rosa competed in the opening bout of UFC Fight Night Denver, defeating Joby Sanchez by split decision.
Reports have surfaced stating that the UFC may be getting rid of the UFC Flyweight Division, but De La Rosa has a theory as to why the fighters may no longer be employed in the future.
“I got my job,” De La Rosa told MMA Junkie. “Maybe they’ve got to do a better job of promoting themselves. Maybe they need to stay out of the media so much. Maybe they need to stop running their mouths. Maybe they just need to shut up and fight. I’m just happy. My first fight coming in I took on 10 days’ notice at ’35. The majority of my fights are at ’35. So if they keep the ’25 division I’m more than happy to stay in it. Twenty-five, ’35, if they want to keep mixing up both, I’ll keep doing whatever the UFC wants me to do.”
The demise of the UFC Flyweight Division seems like a possibility after former divisional champion Demetrious Johnson was traded to One Championship earlier this month, but nothing has been made official at this time.
De La Rosa is happy to get the win at UFC Fight Night Denver, but would like full training camps for future bouts.
“I was happy I got the opportunity, but I want a fight camp,” De La Rosa said. “Taking these fights short notice, short notice and just making the best of what I’ve got. You don’t want to see me in there with a full camp.”
A victorious De La Rosa has competed as a flyweight and bantamweight in the UFC, holding a record of 2-1-0 in the promotion.
