Mairbek Taisumov Wants To Fight Eddie Alvarez

Mairbek Taisumov just entered the UFC Lightweight Division top 15 for the first time in his UFC career, which has already lead to a call out from fellow lightweight Paul Felder.

However, the newly ranked fighter has a different opponent in mind and that is former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez.

“If you ask me who I want to fight, I want to fight Eddie Alvarez” Taisumov told Bloody Elbow. “He beat my trainer, before in Bellator. I just want to get into the cage with this guy and smash this guy.”

The trainer that Taisumov is referring to is former UFC fighter Roger Huerta, that fight with Alvarez took place over seven years ago.

Taisumov has also yet to compete in the United States since signing with the UFC, which is something the fighter hopes to change moving forward.

“I want to fight in the USA,” said Taisumov. “I have some problems with my visa, but my lawyer is working on it and very soon I hope I will get my working visa for the USA and I will get to fight in the USA. I want to show my skills in America. The UFC and mixed martial arts; Las Vegas is their home. I want to fight in this place, I want to be champion in this place.”

A potential fight with Alvarez may be far off for Taisumov, because Alvarez is currently coaching on the UFC Ultimate Fighter 26 and then he faces fellow coach Justin Gaethje a short time after the show concludes.
