Lord Mayor Sally Capp Think The Octagon Girls Aren’t Needed Anymore
The UFC is going to be returning to Australia next month for UFC 243, which will feature UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker and UFC Interim Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya in the main event.
Octagon Girls are expected to handle their duties at the event, but Lord Mayor Of Melbourne Sally Capp doesn’t think the Octagon Girls should take part in UFC events any more.
“It’s 2019, do we really still need scantily-clad women to wander around the middle of a fighting ring between rounds?” Capp told the Herald Sun (via Jesse Holland of MMA Mania). “Grid girls are no longer part of Formula One; walk-on girls are no longer part of professional darts — surely it’s time to move on.”
There is no word from the UFC at this time as to whether or not they plan on removing the Octagon girls from the UFC 243 card or any future events. The Octagon girls have been a part of the UFC for the majority of the promotion’s existence, but this may be the first time a request has been made to remove them altogether.
UFC 243 takes place on Saturday, October 6 from the Marvel Arena in Melbourne, Australia with Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
