Leonard Ellerbe Says McGregor vs. Mayweather Has Already Earned A $60 Million Gate

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe has been by the side of Floyd Mayweather for a long time now.

The CEO says ticket sales for the upcoming super fight between Mayweather and Conor McGregor are strong, with the total gate already being $60 million.

“The fact of the matter is we have over $60 million in the box office right now, which is more than double any other live gate that’s ever been done,” Ellerbe said at the Mayweather open workout. “The fight that they have on the 16th of September [Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin at T-Mobile Arena], next month, our fight right now we’ve got more in the box office right now — double — than they will have.”

Rumors have started spreading in the last few days saying that ticket sales weren’t that strong, but those rumors would be incorrect if Ellerbe’s numbers are right.

Ellerbe also says that one thing hurting boxing right now is the complaining coming from everybody in the sport.

“That’s what’s wrong with boxing today,” Ellerbe said. “You guys are always complaining and looking for shit to complain about when there’s nothing there. That’s the reason why we can’t be innovative. That’s what Floyd Mayweather has done differently than anybody else. He’s thought outside the box.”

Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather takes place on Saturday, August 26 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
