Khabib Nurmagomedov Insists “I Don’t Have Plans For UFC In The Near Future”
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov appears to have contradicted what Dana White claimed about his future in a recent interview with Russian outlet Sport24.
Nurmagomedov was on Fight Island to corner and support his cousin Umar Nurmagomedov, and was caught up and offered a few quotes about his potential future.
“I have achieved almost everything in this sport and there isn’t someone I would like to fight now,” Nurmagomedov said in Russian. (h/t MMA Mania.) “A lot of people don’t want to understand my side. I don’t see that yet. I train for myself. If we talk about all my business projects that are planned, fights are not in these plans.”
“My mother is the most precious thing I have left,” Nurmagomedov continued. “You won’t push me to do things that will disappoint my mother. I don’t even have plans for UFC in the near future. I don’t even have any thoughts about preparing for a fight. I saw how Umar was preparing now and I thought, Alhamdulillah (praise be to God) I left it behind.”
Nurmagomedov retired after pushing his undefeated record to 29-0 after a stoppage victory over Justin Gaethje in October. Previously White had stated that it would only an impressive performance to motivate “The Eagle” to return to the cage, but even that seems to have been overstating things.
