Khabib Nuramgomedov’s Dad Wants Him To Retire Soon
Khabib Nurmagomedov will be fighting Tony Ferguson in the co-main event of UFC 209, they will be battling for the vacant UFC Interim Lightweight Title.
Khabib’s father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, would like to see his son retire within the next two years.
“I dont want to upset any fans but Khabib is 28 years old and by 30 he has to finish his career,” Abdulmanap said to Life. “I've never voiced this opinion before, didn't talk about it to anyone. But I'm afraid he's got left 1.5 years.”
If Khabib were to win the vacant championship at UFC 209, it would be the first championship he's won as a professional MMA fighter. Poppa Nurmagomedov doesn’t just want his son to retire for health reasons, but he wants his son to train the next generation of fighters.
“I want him as a healthy, thinking person. I want him to develop other fighters. In such a big sport, a career between 24-30 years old is enough,” says Abdulmanap.
UFC 209 takes place on Saturday, March 4 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson headlining. Fightful will be providing live coverage of the event, followed by a post-show podcast.
