Kevin Holland Compares Himself To NBA Legend Dennis Rodman
Kevin Holland sees himself as the Dennis Rodman of MMA.
Prior to his UFC Vegas 22 main event against Derek Brunson, Holland spoke with Mike Heck of MMAFighting about the matchup, his possible future at welterweight, and much more.
“We’ve been working hard, and I’ll take two weeks off,” Holland said (h/t International Business Times). “Two weeks off means I am ready to go, [all in to] the first [middleweight] fight in April. That doesn’t mean I am done. It just means I get to go and have a couple of days under the sun. After I am done having a couple of days under the sun, back to business,” he continued. “I am like Dennis Rodman, you know what I mean? I can go party hard as hell one night and then win the championship the next night. Don’t play with me, I’d do it.”
One of many legendary Dennis Rodman escapades had the Chicago Bulls power forward abandoning practice during the NBA finals in order to take a quick trip to Las Vegas. Despite the series against the Utah Jazz being tied 2-2, Rodman still felt the urge to get out to Las Vegas. Head coach Phil Jackson even sanctioned Rodman’s trip when speaking with the Chicago Tribune at the time:
“Dennis needs to dissipate energy sometimes. It builds up in him, and he has to get rid of it, whether it’s on the dance floor or whatever. Sometimes Dennis plays a 40-minute game and then goes out and plays a 48-minute game afterward. He’s got a perfect ability–I don’t know what kind of biological clock he has in his system–to do that kind of thing and bounce back and feel better.”
Both athletes are equally eccentric; Holland is extremely talkative during his UFC bouts. After having his five-fight win streak stopped by Derek Brunson, many fans blamed it on all the talking he did during the bout. Holland made no apologies for his style in a post-fight Instagram video.
