The Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) has yet to assign the official or the judges for the upcoming Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather super fight.
However, one person that will not be handling the officiating duties for the bout is longtime referee Kenny Bayless.
“Conor McGregor had nothing to do with Kenny Bayless’ removal,” NAC Executive Director Bob Bennett said to the LA Times. “Kenny Bayless was removed from being considered because of the comment. Based on his comment — he shouldn’t be talking to the media unless it’s something mundane, like about how an official works — he was removed long before McGregor said anything.”
McGregor was mentioned by Bennett because the UFC Lightweight Champion recently stated that he didn’t want Bayless to be the referee because of past comments made by Bayless about the super fight.
In fact, the MMA fighter did say the following about Bayless during a recent media scrum.
“His views … he went public on what he thought the fight was,” McGregor said. “He can’t be involved in the event.”
