Kelvin Gastelum Says Fighting Israel Adesanya Was One Of His Proudest Moments

UFC Interim Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya defeated Kelvin Gastelum by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 236

Gastelum may have come up short against Adesanya at the event, but Gastelum still says it was one of his proudest moments as a professional MMA fighter.

“The [Michael] Bisping fight was a good night for me,” Gastelum said at a recent fan Q&A (via Abhinav Kini of The Body Lock MMA). “But you know what? As a fighter, you always dream of going through those wars and having that ‘Rocky’ moment. And so, my last fight was kinda that. Although I didn’t win, it was such a back-and-forth battle, I was really proud of the work that I did there. Although it wasn’t the result that I wanted, I think my last fight was one of my favorites.”

Adesanya will no go on to fight UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker in the main event of UFC 243, while Gastelum doesn’t have another fight booked at the moment. Adesanya is just one of four fighters to defeat Gastelum, with the other three being Tyron Woodley, Neil Magny and Chris Weidman
