Kazushi Sakuraba & Urijah Faber To Meet In Grappling Match At Quintet 3
Two UFC Hall Of Fame members are set to collide in a grappling match this October at Quintet 3 as Kazushi Sakuraba takes on Urijah Faber.
Both fighters will serve as team captains for two of the four teams competing at the event, which is streaming live on UFC Fight Pass.
This is going to be Faber’s first taste of combat sports of any kind since retiring at UFC On Fox 22, while Sakuraba is a mainstay of the Quintet promotion.
Faber says its an honor to be fighting the combat sports legend and its a dream come true.
“For me, Sakuraba was my favorite fighter when I first got into the sport,” Faber said at a Quintet media day. “I had a two-hour VHS tape of Sakuraba and all his crazy stuff. He was doing crazy double flying chops with both hands and undressing the Gracie family one shoulder at a time and probably my favorite fight of all-time was when he fought in Heroes and was rocked and kind of out of it, and they stopped him and kind of shook him in bounds. The guy’s incredible. I think he and I both have 19 submissions, which is close to the record in UFC, WEC, Strikeforce and PRIDE combined. So for me, this is awesome man, it’s a dream come true.”
Quintet 3 takes place on Friday, October 5 from The Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event announced at this time. Fightful will provide coverage of the event, which streams live on UFC Fight Pass.
