Kayla Harrison Says She’s Making Her Pro MMA Debut On June 21

Two time judo Olympic gold medalist Kayla Harrison is set to make her professional MMA debut this June at a Professional Fighters League event.

Harrison has been preparing to make her pro MMA debut for a while now, but had to get a few things together first before a fight could happen.

“I’ve been waiting for a long time to fight,” Harrison said on The MMA Hour. “First, it was just me, I wanted to get my feet wet, get in there, see if I liked getting punched in the face and now that I’ve established that I do, we’ve sort of been waiting for the PFL to get their stuff together. Their stuff is together. Their first card is June 7 at Madison Square Garden, so I’m going to fight on the second card. June 21 in Chicago.”

The Olympic gold medalist also claims that two fighters have already turned down the bout, but neither Harrison or the promotion has named the foe yet.

American Top Team is where Harrison has been training at and she calls the group one of the best teams in the United States.

“[The PFL] said, ‘You don’t have to fight if you don’t want to, but if you decide this is what you want to do. We have a home for you. And then I started training and now I’m training with one of the best teams in the country,” says Harrison.

PFL 2 takes place on Thursday, June 21 from the Chicago Theater in Chicago, Illinois with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on the NBC Sports Network.
