Kamaru Usman On UFC Vegas 11 Main Event: “I Love This Fight”
Kamaru Usman will be watching UFC Vegas 11.
Former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington and former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will meet in the main event of UFC Vegas 11. The upcoming bout between Covington and Woodley is a fight that the welterweight champion loves.
“This is an intriguing fight. I love this fight,” Usman said on the UFC Vegas 9 post-fight show (via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “This is a grudge match that should have happened a long time ago. Somebody came through and kind of ruined those plans but the fight is still happening now.”
This rivalry between Covington and Woodley has been going on for years now, but this will be their first meeting inside of the Octagon. Usman says the bout between the two former champions is both the best and worst case scenario for Woodley.
“I think that this is the best and possibly the worst case scenario for Tyron Woodley,” Usman explained. “As far as style matchups, I think this is probably one of the worst stylistic matchups for him after coming off back-to-back fights with guys that love kind of pressure him. Guys that can grapple as well and guys that kind of throw some volume.”
UFC Vegas 11 is set for Saturday, September 19 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada with Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be revealed.
