Kamaru Usman Blasts Marc Goddard On Twitter, Goddard Schools Him Before Getting Apology
Former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez suffered a second round TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC On Fox 30.
Referee Marc Goddard oversaw the fight and stood the competitors up after Alvarez landed an illegal 12-6 elbow strike. A short time after the stand up, it would be Poirier destroying Alvarez with a fight ending sequence of knee strikes and punches.
A short time after the bout, an angry Kamaru Usman would send the following tweet (which has since been deleted), blasting Goddard for allegedly costing Alvarez the fight:
Fuck that referee. I will not fight if that ref is calling my fight. He cost Eddie that fight smfh #UFcCalgary — KAMARU USMAN (@USMAN84kg) July 29, 2018
Goddard would get word of what Usman tweeted and would then respond to the UFC star, pointing out that Alvarez had used several illegal tactics during the fight.
Mr Usman, I understand that emotion is a factor. Mr Alvarez held the fence, clawed the ear & then threw the 12-6 elbow that is why the positional advantage was taken away. As for your request, no problem that’s easily arranged. I wish you all the best in your career. Thank you. https://t.co/x3GoCEkLqi

The response from Goddard would then prompt an apology from the UFC star:
Marc you’re not wrong. Obviously I’m overacting because that’s my brother Ed. There were a few questionable strikes on both ends. You still do a fine job as a ref.

Usman demanded that Goddard not officiate any of his bouts in the future, it is unknown if Usman still feels that was after the response from Goddard.
