Josh Emmett Offers Ricardo Lamas A Rematch
Josh Emmett pulled one of the biggest upsets of the year when he knocked out #3 ranked Ricardo Lamas in the co-main event of UFC On Fox 26.
The victorious fighter did enter the bout as a late replacement and over weight, but won’t stop him from giving Lamas a rematch if he wanted it.
“Of course (Lamas can have a rematch),” Emmett told MMA Junkie. “He did this for me. He didn’t have to take this fight. He is one of the best guys in the world. He could have sat back and waited for the winner of (Frankie) Edgar (vs. Max) Holloway fight and then get a title shot, or fight (Brian) Ortega, and the winner of that get a title fight. I’m truly grateful for him accepting the fight, as well as with me missing the weight.”
Lamas was originally set to fight former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo at the event, but Aldo was pulled from the card to fill in at UFC 218.
Emmett isn’t eligible for an performance bonuses due to missing weight, but the fighter hopes some kind of exception can be made.
“I think I paid the price for that (missing weight),” he said. “But if there’s an exception that the UFC or (UFC President) Dana White could do, I’ll gladly take that $50,000 bonus. It’s Christmas coming up.”
There is no word from Lamas yet as to whether of not he would accept the offer for a rematch from Emmett.
