Jose Aldo Thought About Retirement After Second Loss To Max Holloway
Former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo is back in action in the co-main event of UFC On Fox 30, facing Jeremy Stephens.
The Brazilian is coming off of a second straight loss to UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway at UFC 218, a defeat that almost sent the former champion into retirement.
”After the fight, I took some time for myself, to think and stay with my family,” Aldo told Combate. “Two weeks later, I met with my coaches, sat down with everyone. I asked what they thought, if it was time to stop or not. We decided to move forward. The next day I was in the gym.”
Aldo is making some personal history at UFC On Fox 30, as the bout against Stephens will mark the first time Aldo has fought a three round bout in any promotion since WEC 41 in June of 2009.
Despite the recent skid, one thing Aldo still believes he can do is win the UFC Featherweight Title.
”I think I still have much wood to burn, full capacity to go there and fight for the title again,” Aldo said. “I still have four fights left in the contract. I want to do at least three this year. I want to get to the third fighting for the title, be champion again. Then, in the future, I think about retiring or not.”
UFC On Fox 30 takes place on Saturday, July 28 from the Scotiabank Center in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on Fox.
