Jose Aldo Thinks Conor McGregor Rematch Will Happen In The Fall
Jose Aldo is well aware that he may not get to face Conor McGregor for a long time. But if it does happen, he’s expecting it to be in Madison Square Garden.
Aldo spoke to MMA Fighting, and mentioned that he thought McGregor’s UFC 202 opponent Nate Diaz was a bigger, stronger fighter and would likely beat McGregor. Aldo admitted that a McGregor loss was important for his immediate future, as he’s seen constant trilogy fights.
“If he loses (to Diaz), it’s highly likely that they put us to fight on November 12, at Madison Square Garden. The Irish community is big over there. But if he wins, I think they will do a third fight between them and ruin all my plans. He has to lose. Otherwise, they will do a third fight. I’m rooting for him to lose, of course. If he wins, they will do another rematch with Nate, and that’s bad. He has to lose. He has to lose. He will lose,” Aldo said.
If McGregor doesn’t lose, Aldo says he’s in a rough situation. However, he’s not writing off his fighting future just because of Conor McGregor. Aldo knows there are other prospects on the horizon for him to fight. Still, what if McGregor beats Diaz?
“Then I’m f—ed. But I really hope it happens. If it’s a fight against Holloway, I don’t see any problem. This event in New York will make history. I really hope I’m at this card because I want to be part of history,” said Aldo.
