Jose Aldo Defends Conor McGregor, Al Iaquinta Says Somebody Should’ve Cold Clocked Him For Bellator 187 Incident

UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor made quite the spectacle of himself when he hopped the cage to celebrate with teammate Charlie Ward at Bellator 187.

Former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo is a longtime rival of McGregor’s, but he is coming to the fighter’s defense in the situation.

“I haven’t seen the video, but I heard about it,” Aldo said at a media event in Brazil. “I think it’s normal. He’s an emotional guy, and when an Irishman is fighting the Irish people embrace them a lot. I don’t condemn him. He didn’t do that for attention, he’s done that before. When we did The Ultimate Fighter, an athlete from his team won and he went up there and in there, he even tore his pants. He’s really emotional, and I don’t condemn him for what he’s done.”

Al Iaquinta competes in the UFC Lightweight Division, but he has yet to step into the Octagon with the UFC Lightweight Champion.

The New York native and real estate salesman says somebody should have cold clocked McGregor when the incident occurred.

“Did you see what Conor McGregor just did? He took over Bellator and like went crazy.” Iaquinta told BJPenn.com. “It seems like that guy, I don’t know. I feel like somebody should have just cold clocked him and give him a wake up call, dude, you know.”

McGregor has since issued an apology for his actions on that night, but has received no formal punishment for said actions.
