Jonathan Meunier Says That His True Self Has Arrived In the UFC
Jonathan Meunier earned his first victory in the UFC when he defeated Richard Walsh by decision at UFC Fight Night 101, Meunier says that the victory has proved that his true self has finally arrived in the octagon.
“For sure, I was me,” Meunier said to MMA Junkie. “Last time, people don’t know but I was just finishing two other fights. So I took a short-notice in one month. So the reason was – three fights in 60 days is not normal. So, this time, yeah. The opponent, too, was really different. (Covington) was a southpaw wrestler, so this is really different. We’re used to fighting and sparring (orthodox fighters) at the gym. Not break to train, because I’ve got a reputation – I’m always at the gym.”
Meunier (8-1-0) made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 89, where he suffered a third round submission loss to Colby Covington, it was also the first loss the fighter has suffered since turning pro in October of 2013, Meunier did enter the fight against Covington as a late replacement.
Meunier nor the UFC has announced his next bout in the octagon, but he isn’t expected to compete again until 2017.
