Jon Jones Says People Forgot Who The Greatest Fighter Is, Will Deal With Brock Lesnar As Well

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones returns after a year suspension to challenge UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 214.

Since he has been gone, the former light heavyweight champion has seen no fighter rise to greater heights than UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.

With McGregor’s rise to superstar status, the returning Jones feels like MMA fans have forgotten who the greatest MMA fighter actually is.

“I feel like it’s a comeback. There’s been a lot that’s happened over the last year. We’ve had Conor McGregor and his brand really take off. I’ve been hearing things in this Mayweather/Mcgregor build up people say ‘Conor McGregor is the greatest mixed martial artist ever fighting against the greatest boxer ever’ and it’s funny to me how fast people forget who is the greatest mixed martial arts fighter and that’s been me in my heart,” Jones said on the 77 ABC’s The MMA Report With Mike Gunzelman Podcast.

Jones was supposed to face Cormier for the second time at UFC 200 before the suspension and UFC 200 was also the last time MMA fans saw former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lensar compete.

Speaking of the former UFC Heavyweight Champion, a potential battle with Jones may be in his future.

“I’ll deal with Brock when the time is right,” says Jones.

UFC 214 takes place on Saturday, July 29 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
