Jon Jones Says He Wants To Fight ‘The Right Opponent’ For Heavyweight Title

Jon Jones is out of the cage until July 2017, but still has plans for his future, and not just at light heayvweight.

Jones spoke to Joe Rogan in one of his first interviews since being suspended for one year by the United States Anti-Doping Agency in relation to a failed drug test for clomiphene before UFC 200 in July. Jones was cleared of being a 'cheat,' but was still banned for negligence.

Upon his return to fighting, Jones said on The Joe Rogan Experience that he could fight for the Heavyweight title against the right opponent.

"People always talk about me going up to heavyweight. If I was a little bit bigger, I would go to heavyweight. They can weigh 60lbs more than me? Very dangerous. I do want to challenge for the heavyweight title but I'm waiting for the perfect opponent. I've beaten up a lot of heavyweights. I've submitted, slammed, manhandled them," Jones explained.

The current Heavyweight champion is 34-year old Stipe Miocic. Micocic is 6'4", 240 pounds — close to the same dimensions as Jones before a weight cut. Jones would also have a four inch reach advantage over Miocic, but Jones was careful to not name any heavyweights.

Jones has been embroiled in a longstanding feud with current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier. Jones coasted to victory over Cormier in January 2015, which is pertinent due to Cormier's undefeated record and prior success at heavyweight.

You can see the full interview with Jones above. Jones will face Dan Henderson in a grappling match on December 11 at Submission Underground II.
