Jon Jones Open To Fighting UFC 241 Main Event Winner

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones successfully defended the gold against Thiago Santos in the main event of UFC 239.

Daniel Cormier defends the UFC Heavyweight Championship against former title holder Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 241 and the winner of that bout could be next for Jones.

“Absolutely (I would fight Cormier again),” Jones said after the event (via Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie). “Me and Daniel, we’re both speaking the same thing. It’s going to be a superfight, and the only reason why it hasn’t happened is, I think, the UFC’s scheduling. When the UFC’s ready for the fight, they know they have two guys who are willing and able and they’ll approach us and they’ll say, ‘Hey, this is what he’s going to get paid’ and Daniel will be happy. Yeah, absolutely I’d be willing to fight Stipe, as well. I’d rather fight Daniel because I feel like I have his recipe, but I’d fight Stipe, too.”

Jones has fought Cormier twice before, but he has yet to step into the Octagon against Miocic.

The bout against either Cormier or Miocic will probably happen at heavyweight, but Jones is still focused on the light heavyweight division.

“My passion is at the light heavyweight division,” Jones said. “There’s so many guys that are coming up right now, and there’s so much work to do be done still. People always say, ‘Jon, you’ve cleared your division.’ I don’t look at it that way. I’m impressed by all the fighters. There’s so many guys.”

UFC 241 takes place on Saturday, August 17 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
