Jon Jones’ Coach Not Happy With Chael Sonnen
Mike Winkeljohn, the coach of former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, isn’t happy.
After Chael Sonnen made comments about Jones that suggested the former champion would go under the cage to hide when officials would come in for drug tests. Sonnen told UFC commentator Joe Rogan back in July that Jones recent suspension wasn’t his first run in with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). In fact, Jones allegedly went above and beyond to avoid being tested.
“USADA rolls in to Jackson’s gym to do a test on Jon Jones and there were only some coaches in there and Jon, there were like five people in there at the time. Where they parked, he can see them coming, so they know what to do with him. They hide him underneath the cage. Jon Jones hides under the cage. They say, ‘Jon, we don’t know where he is,’ and this is before we were enrolled in the program and he did not need to disclose his whereabouts. At the same time, if they show up and find you, you must test. If they can’t find you, you didn’t have to test back then. They wanted to get a warrant to go under that ring, under the theory that at some point in that 6-8 hour span, he would have had to pee. They wanted to go under forensically and collect that urine. That’s how upset they were that they had been had.”
Neededless to say, Winkeljohn fired back at Sonnen’s “false” comments.
“It’s just Chael Sonnen trying to make himself relevant,” Winkeljohn told Submission Radio . “Whatever. No, Jon did not hide from that stuff, nor would we want him to do so. It’s completely false.”
Overall, it seems too weird of a story to make up. That being said, Sonnen is no stranger to weird so it wouldn’t surprise anyone if his claims were fabricated. Now the question becomes whether Sonnen will respond to Winkeljohn’s comments, or if he’ll just let it go. Knowing the type of person Sonnen is, it’s hard to believe he’s going to let it go.
