Jon Jones “B” Sample Tests Positive For Turinabol
Jon Jones' drug test failure from UFC 214 now appears to be set in stone with the results of his "B" sample.
Weeks after it was revealed that Jones failed a drug test for the steroid turinabol in a urine test administered by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) the day before UFC 214, Jones' "B" sample also tested positive for the same banned substance.
Through a spokesperson, USADA sent out a statement confirming the "B" sample results. ESPN's Brett Okamoto was the first to report on the news.
“Mr. Jones’ B sample has confirmed the A sample findings,” the statement read. “Importantly — as previously stated — due process should occur before drawing any conclusions about this matter.”
Although Jones asked for the "B" sample to be tested for turinabol, more often than not, the "B" sample would yield the same result as the "A" sample in cases such as these.
Jones has not been formally stripped of the UFC Light Heavyweight title he won from Daniel Cormier at UFC 214, but that could change in the coming weeks. Jones is now facing a potential USADA suspension that could last up to four years because Jones is a repeat offender. Jones has vehemently denied taking any banned substances.
As far as the result of the match against Cormier is concerned, the California State Athletic Commission has yet to announce any change to the result. Jones has already been suspended for a failed drug test last year for the banned substances clomiphene and Letrozole and has been stripped of the UFC Light Heavyweight title in the past.
