Johnny Walker Supports Jon Jones’ Move To Heavyweight: “He Did Enough At” 205

Johnny Walker wants to see Jon Jones succeed at heavyweight.

Walker (17-5) caught up with Fightful ahead of his fight with Ryan Spann (18-5) at UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley on Saturday, September 19. The knockout artist reacted to Jones’ vacancy of the light-heavyweight title and planned move to heavyweight.”

“That’s really nice. He did enough at light heavyweight. Moving up, he has his career to look after. He wants to make history at heavyweight as well. I wish him good luck,” Walker said. “I hope he can do good because another division like heavyweight, there are people who cut weight to make it. They’re heavy, strong guys. That makes a big difference. I’m very excited to see him fight at heavyweight.”

Walker is equally excited to see Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz compete for the now-vacant UFC light heavyweight title: “The guys worked hard for this position. It’s their turn.”

Ahead of the Spann fight, Walker has enlisted former opponent Misha Cirkunov to corner him.

“I need somebody to help me on fight week to do some drills. He is a good fighter, he is a top contender as well. He has good wrestling, good jiu-jitsu and boxing,” Walker explained. “I was cutting weight but I need to keep training a little bit. Just technique and workouts.”

UFC Fight Night: Covington vs. Woodley is expected to take place on Saturday, August 19 with Colby Covington vs. Tyron Woodley reportedly serving as headliner. Fightful will have all your fight night coverage right.
