Joe Rogan Won’t Be Doing Commentary At UFC 249

There have been three UFC events postponed by the coronavirus, but UFC 249 is expected to happen as planned on April 18, just from a new location.

One person who won’t be at the undisclosed location is Joe Rogan, who won’t do color commentary on that night due to coronavirus concerns.

“I guess someone’s going to commentate it – it’s not gonna be me,” Rogan said on The Joe Rogan Experience (via Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie). “UFC is talking about putting on a fight on April 18. I don’t know how they’re gonna do that. I don’t know if they’re gonna be able to do that in the United States. They’re talking about doing it in a place with less than 10 people, just in an open arena.”

No word has been given yet as to who’ll be a part of the commentary team, but that should be known when the UFC announces the full details for the event.

Rogan also wonders just how the UFC is going to ensure their fighters are safe to compete as the coronavirus pandemic rages on.

“The thing is, how are they going to make sure nobody has it?” Rogan said. “You’re going to have to test everybody. And if someone has it, do you let them fight? What if they have it, and they’re like Idris Elba, and they have no symptoms, but they’ve got the corona? What if Khabib has the corona? Or what if Tony has the corona? Does Khabib even fight him?”

UFC 249 takes place on Saturday, April 18 from a location to be announced with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
